For the first time in many years, the excitement of championship snowmobile racing returns to its roots in southern Vermont, as East Coast Snocross (ECS) will contest round eight of its nine-race 2015 schedule on Saturday and Sunday, March 7-8, at the beautiful Magic Mountain ski area in Londonderry.
Spectator gates open at 9 a.m. each day, with all Finals concluding shortly after 3:30 p.m. Admission is $15 per day for adults or $25 for a weekend pass. Children age 7 and under will be admitted free with a paying adult. Pit passes valid through the weekend are available for an extra $10.
Leading the charge into Magic Mountain is defending and four-time Pro Open champion Danny Poirier. The Quebec native has been on a tear this season aboard his Ingles Performance/Ski-doo, piling up the wins and podiums as he strives for a fifth title. Working hard to challenge Poirier for that crown is series newcomer Johan Dahlgren, of Sweden, who already has a pair of wins this season riding his Team Southside/Mystic Lubricants Polaris.
Leading the charge in the talent-filled Pro Lite class will be riders like Vermont veteran Wade Acker and red-hot rookie Cody Paolella. Both riders notched final round wins last weekend in Valcourt, Quebec. Paolella has four wins this season and is leading the overall point standings. As in the premier Pro Open class, all three active sled builders (Arctic Cat, Ski-doo and Polaris) are well represented here with their latest limited production racing machines.
Along with thrilling qualifying heats and finals in Pro and Pro Lite, fans can expect plenty of great racing in the Sport, Women, Junior, and Trail classes, as well. ECS has recently added 800cc trail sleds to its entry-level classes so more recreational riders can test the waters of snocross. Add a 120cc program for kids ages 6 to 10, and you have a fun-filled weekend the entire family can enjoy.
Magic Mountain is one of the last truly independent ski areas in Vermont. The facility offers 43 trails for skiers of all ability levels, with a 1700 ft. vertical drop and summit of 2,850 feet. Magic Mountain provides thrills and scenic splendor unmatched anywhere in the region.
Magic Mountain has an "old school" relaxed vibe and looks forward to sharing it with snocross fans. The mountain is accessible from the VAST trail system. Parking for those wanting to ride in will be at Timber Ridge ski area, located on the back side of Magic in Windham, Vermont. For those coming by passenger car, spectator parking will be off-site. Tickets will be available online starting March 1, 2015. For more information, check the Magic Mountain website at www.MagicMtn.com. Potential vendors (food and other products) and event sponsors are asked to email [email protected] for details.
