This marks the end of the Baker family’s reign in the hotel industry in Gaspé after over a century. In 1983, the One Ash Inn was sold to Carmen Fournier by the Baker heirs residing in British Columbia. Hotel Baker was sold again by Margery Emmeline Cary Patterson on May 4, 1974, to a group of businessmen from Gaspé, including the current owner, Roger Denis. Unfortunately, Baker’s Hotel burned down on July 31, 1975. Nearby properties were later converted into apartment houses. A few months after the fire, the same group of investors decided to build a new hotel on the same site, operational by June 1978, under the name Auberge des Gouverneurs, with 44 rooms and 12 motel units added earlier.

In 2001, significant changes and expansions reaffirmed the hotel’s position as a leader in hospitality, dining, and conferences in Gaspésie. These changes included 14 new rooms, a 102-seat cinema, and expanded conference rooms and restaurant. Proud of our many services, our goal is now to become a destination in itself.
