Chippewa County, WI – Snowmobile trails in county close for season

After one of the longer seasons in recent years, the snowmobile trails in Chippewa County closed Wednesday.

The announcement was made by the Chippewa County Snowmobile Organization, which opened nearly all trails on Dec. 21, 2013.

The winter of 2013-14 has produced 64.9 inches of snow, which is 21 inches more than normal for this time of year. Of course, last winter we were at 66 inches at this point and wound up with more than 80 inches of snow.

Snow depth for the Chippewa Valley is down to 11 inches, or roughly half of what it was a couple of weeks ago. And with a storm system moving into the area Wednesday night and Thursday that is expected to produce more rain than snow, the trails will deteriorate further.
