Cain’s Quest Snowmobile Endurance Race is back in action for the 2011 race season

Cain’s Quest Snowmobile Endurance Race is back in action gearing up for the 2011 race season. Organizers have begun the advertising campaign and this season promises to be the biggest yet! With an all new ‘Ladies Edition’ taking place, Cain’s Quest is breaking new ground. Two races, two prize purses, and two action packed thrill rides to keep Cain’s Quest fans on the edge of their seats!

It all happens on March 12th, 2011 in Labrador City. At 11am, racers of the Main Event will take off on a 2500km journey through the Labrador wild. Hitting 18 checkpoints comprised of 9 remote areas and 9 community checkpoints, racers will have to bring their ‘A game’ in this true test of endurance. The 2011 route will be the original route that racers were set to run this past March. Due to poor ice conditions along the route, the 2010 event was cancelled in the interest of safety. The organizing committee is optimistic for the 2011 race and feels that last year’s situation was simply a freak of nature and not something that will occur this coming year.

The Main Event will be including the communities of Labrador City/Wabush, Churchill Falls, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Rigolet, Makkovik, Postville, Hopedale, Natuashish and Nain. Volunteers will be required in each community and all indications are that the roster will reach a max capacity this year.

The Ladies Edition will be a scaled down version of the Main Event and will start at 2pm on the same day. Although women are welcome to register for either race, Cain’s Quest felt that a ‘Ladies Only’ event would encourage more women to try their luck and test their skills in a shorter race before committing to the ‘Everest’ of snowmobile races!

Organizers recognize that there are many women who are serious hardcore snowmobilers and this would be a tremendous opportunity for them to show off their skills. For women who are adventurous and love the outdoors, Cain’s Quest feels that this race may peak their interest and in turn may even open some doors to broaden the market and spark growth in the snowmobiling industry in general.

Both races will be similar in terms of basic expectations and rules. Racers will travel during day and night depending on personal navigational skills and their knowledge of GPS tracking to make their way to checkpoint to checkpoint. All racers will tackle the variance in terrain and unpredictable temperatures and weather patterns. The only significant difference is the length of race, the race route and the ability in the Ladies Edition for racers to have anyone work on their machines. In contrast to the 2500 km route of the Main Event, the Ladies Edition will run 650 km from Labrador City to Churchill Falls consisting of 7 checkpoints. Layovers for the Main Event will total 30 hours with options on where they can take their part of their layover time. The Ladies Edition will have 12 hours of layover time that must be taken in Churchill Falls.

The Prize Purse for the Main Event has been set at $65,000 while the Ladies Edition has $20,000 up for grabs. Thanks to Global Star, SPOT and Trackleaders.Com. Both races will be available through satellite tracking on the official Cain’s Quest website.

Cain’s Quest 2011 is going to be one of the biggest events the province has ever seen and the world will be watching.
