BRP Inc. officially launched its $15-million Design & Innovation Centre in Valcourt.

The 50,000-square-foot facility, including parking, will house a 60-person team of concept artists, designers and engineers for Bombardier Recreational Products, which markets vehicles like the Ski-Doo, Sea-Doo, Evinrude and Johnson outboard engines as well as all-terrain vehicles, roadsters and karts.

Company spokesperson Johanne Denault said that the centre would allow the company to shorten the development pipeline of new products by three to five years. Some new vehicles take as much as a decade to go from the drawing boart to the assembly line, and the centre is designed to shorten that span by as much as half.
