In 2010 what are we looking for in a snowmobile boot? In fact, the same basic elements our fathers were looking for 30 years ago: insulation from cold and moisture. But today, the boots must also be comfortable, lightweight and with some graphics! This is exactly what is offered by the Lightning boots manufactured by the Canadian Baffin Company.
Since many decades now, Baffin manufactures a more traditional extreme-cold resistant boot. The company has refined their series of products and proposes among others for the snowmobile, more stylish products such as the Lightning model. This boot is rated to perform at -70 °C; inspired mostly by the snowboard boot, the Lightning is one of the highest quality products offered today on the market.
The quality of the materials and the care given to details are proofs of the meticulous conception of this model. With an independent 8-layer inner boot system with Thermaplush, the Lightning boot comes from many high technologies brought together, such as: the outside 2-stage BXT shell in synthetic rubber, the BXT insole and liner for a good support and finally, the carbon fibre leathers and rip-stop nylon. We particularly appreciate the more traditional lacing fastening system that provides a better adjustment to the pilot’s foot than the Velcro system. However, the metal eyelets of the laces put at the top of the boot should be covered with plastic in order to avoid scratching the tunnel of the snowmobile in a sporty driving. This said, all the technologies that have been used make a high quality boot out of this Lightning model, wearing well, cold proof and with outstanding insulation properties.
In spite of great moisture-proof materials that have been used, we however recommend to take off the inner boot after each day you use it so that the possible wetness can be evacuated. All this is in order to optimize the performance of this piece of equipment that is so strategic for all snowmobilers. After more than 5 000 km riding in different conditions, from the province of Québec to the American Rockies of Montana, this boot did not disappoint us.
It is important to note that we also recommend this model to the rear passengers who are more exposed to the severe winter rides. You are invited to click the www.baffin.comif you want to know more about this product or about all the Baffin series.
