Once again, this year, I have the chance to test drive a Yamaha snowmobile for a few days on loan from my partner Motos Thibault in Sherbrooke. Martin (President of Motos Thibault) gave me a tour of this sled, and while explaining the features, he pointed out that this snowmobile, which I’m going to test, is the fastest production snowmobile in the world right now; my right thumb suddenly got excited…
The engine reputation of this sled is flawless. According to the manufacturer, an output of 998 cc supercharged by a turbocharger brings the brute force to 200 HP. When you press the throttle, an incredible thrust occurs; your arms reach out, so hold on tight to your handles, an instant smile in the helmet appears, and an adrenaline rush occurs instantly.
The 2021 Sidewinder SRX LE also offers a high level of comfort. The seat is comfortable, and the front and rear IQS suspension adjusts from soft to stiff at the touch of a button. In addition, the Stryke’s single-keel ski and ARCS system at the front provide precise steering and stability on the trail.
The 2021 Sidewinder SRX LE is also equipped with a well-positioned push-button starter that also serves as a backup, an automotive-style DC and RCA receptacle, a dual-intensity heated seat, and a 20-inch storage bag under the seat. The fuel tank capacity is 33.6 liters, which I think should be larger because it could be a disadvantage when you have to drive long distances. The track’s size is 137 x 15 x 1 inches and is designed to limit friction and give maximum speed to the snowmobile, but on trails, I would prefer a more aggressive track to limit oversteer given the power of the engine.
The 2021 Yamaha Sidewinder SRX LE looks great. It turns heads with its sleek lines and beautiful blue and white Yamaha racing color. Its short windshield also gives it an edge, but it is not very useful in cold weather. If you’re the type of rider who likes to have a machine with power to spare, this is the snowmobile for you.
To finish, I would like to thank Motos Thibault Marine of Sherbrooke for allowing me to do this test. I invite you to go and see them or visit their website. I also invite you to visit our website SledMagazine.com, THE reference in snowmobiling. See you soon!
