For 2016, Ski-Doo makes a strong comeback with many major improvements on snowmobiles equipped with the famous triple four-stroke 1200 4-TEC Rotax engine. Firstly introduced in 2009 on the REV-XR platform, the new models are now offered on the very popular REV-XS chassis.

This change has been achieved by modifying two main components, a new lighter and more compact exhaust system and slightly larger side panels for more engine space. These panels still offer an excellent protection against wind, a very appreciated feature of the previous platform. All the advanced ergonomics of the REV-XS remain the same with this new configuration. With its modern design and aggressive style, it is sure that the 2016 snowmobiles equipped with the 1200 4-TEC will turn heads next winter.

Another very interesting innovation for 2016 is the addition of the intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) on snowmobiles equipped with the 1200 4-TEC engine. Along with the proven characteristics like the three driving modes (Sport, Standard and ECO), the Learning Key and the finger throttle, the addition of the iTC system represents an important improvement of the engine performance. The electronic management of the air-intake throttle crankcase brings a significant decrease of the time of response, by 45 % shorter with the iTC system compared with the previous models equipped with the wire throttle. This calibration provides an improved performance at start and at medium engine speed. Another interesting feature, is that the iTC system increases the safety of the vehicle during parking maneuvers, mostly on reverse.
The Sport mode allows the 1200 4-TEC engine to offer an impressive performance with its 130 HP, an instant response and very quick accelerations. The Standard mode will please the touring snowmobilers who want an excellent overall performance, smooth accelerations and a good fuel economy. The ECO mode significantly optimizes the fuel economy by changing the operating parameters of the engine and by limiting the snowmobile speed at 70 km/h. This mode offers up to 5 % more fuel economy (12,3 L/100 km) versus the previous configuration.
Eagerly awaited since some time now, this makeover of Ski-Doo snowmobiles equipped with the 1200 4-TEC engine will please the most demanding snowmobilers. I am personally the owner of such a model since many years and I have been very impressed by the handling and performance of the new models on trail during the tests ran a few weeks ago. Along with the above-mentioned performance and technology elements, I mostly appreciated the clutch calibration of the prototypes we had for our tests. It was not only very efficient, but it was particularly silent during the ride.
By joining the legendary and very reliable 1200 4-TEC engine to the very efficient REV-XS chassis, along with the numerous other innovative technologies, Ski-Doo once again offers an outstanding combination worthy of the best trail snowmobiles ever built. This new configuration will be available for 2016 in a wide range of models of the MXZ, Renegade, Grand Touring and Expedition lineups.
